MORTAL KOMBAT
Mortal Kombat – 1950s Retro TV Concept
Role: Creative Director, AI Art Director, Motion Designer, Music Supervisor
Tools Used: MidJourney, Suno, Kling AI, Hailuo
What if Mortal Kombat aired during the golden age of television? I reimagined the franchise as a 1950s live-action TV show, complete with Technicolor visuals, period-authentic costuming, and a pulp-style tone straight out of vintage broadcast history.
I used MidJourney to design custom character visuals inspired by actors from the era. With Kling AI and Hailuo, I animated the scenes and added subtle movements that felt true to early studio techniques. For the soundtrack, I turned to Suno to generate an original retro theme, mixing big band flair with dramatic stingers that echoed classic broadcast intros.
Every detail — lighting, film grain, sound cues — was crafted to sell the illusion of a long-lost pilot from another timeline.
Responsibilities:
-
Directed the visual and tonal style to match 1950s television formats
-
Generated character designs and scene compositions in MidJourney with a focus on period-accurate costumes and props
-
Animated scenes in Kling AI, refining movements and camera work to reflect old-school TV framing
-
Scored the project using Suno to create a custom vintage-style theme song
-
Applied video texture and analog imperfections using After Effects and post tools to complete the effect
Outcome:
-
Delivered a fully stylized concept video that blends AI art and storytelling into a cinematic parody
-
Received high engagement from fans of both Mortal Kombat and retro culture
-
Showcased my ability to blend fandom, genre-bending creativity, and AI into a visually cohesive narrative
-
Positioned as a concept piece proving that modern tools can breathe new life into classic formats
