Bob’s Burgers – 1980s Live-Action Drama Concept
Bob’s Burgers – 1980s Live-Action Drama Concept
Role: Creative Director, Visual Designer, Animator, Music Supervisor
Tools Used: MidJourney, Kling AI, Hailuo AI
Soundtrack: “Dammit (After Dark)” by Dead In A Sunday
What if Bob’s Burgers was never a cartoon — but a lost 1980s drama recorded straight to VHS? I reimagined the beloved Belcher family as real-life characters caught in a slower, darker version of their world. Less quirky comedy, more synth-soaked melancholy.
Using MidJourney, I developed photo-realistic scenes and character expressions, styled with era-appropriate fashion and lighting. Kling AI and Hailuo brought the visuals to life with slight motion, lending an uncanny realism. The entire piece was scored to “Dammit (After Dark)” — a brooding, nostalgic anthem that captures the emotional shift of this rework.
From texture to tone, this project was built to feel like a warped tape dug out of a forgotten drawer — familiar faces in a format you’ve never seen before.
Responsibilities:
-
Designed all visuals using MidJourney to create cinematic 1980s-style character portraits
-
Directed animation and subtle performance cues using Kling AI and Hailuo AI
-
Selected and synced music to support emotional pacing and narrative
-
Applied analog textures and VHS styling in post to reinforce the retro format
-
Cut and edited the final Short in Premiere Pro for mood, pacing, and flow
Outcome:
-
Delivered a surreal reimagination of a well-known IP in a completely new emotional context
-
Blended humor, drama, nostalgia, and AI-driven creativity into one cohesive piece
-
Reinforced my ability to flip pop culture through tone, texture, and visual language
